What a great interview with someone who is really good at their niches.
you know I am one of the avid fan of Steven Snell as he always share his passion, knowledge to other aspiring web designer/developer.

Hi David,
I think it depends on what your goals are for the blog. If your primary goals are to get more traffic, subscribers, and grow the blog that way, I would suggest focusing on design-related posts and ditching the personal posts. Personal posts can be great though for connecting with your audience, so it’s just a matter of determining what’s important to you. I have never used my blog for personal posts, but to answer your question I did see significant growth about 6 months in to blogging when I kind of re-focused. At first I was publishing posts on design, marketing, blogging, making money online, and other similar topics. I noticed that the posts relevant to design were generating the most interest, so I stopped posting on the other stuff and traffic increased.

Great interview, and inspiring indeed. I recently started blogging regularly and I’m trying to get some sort of readership going. It’s sometimes tough keep at it, but I am only about three months in it so I guess everyone goes through the same growing pains initially.

Question – did you start to have really condense your blog topics down to get more consistent traffic? I think part of my problem so far is that my posts are rather random, jumping from personal posts to more design related ones. I’m starting to think I need to focus more on one or the other to get more success.

Hi Sander. Well, a lot of my motivation comes from the fact that writing is a big part of how I earn a living. There are times when I don’t really feel like working on blog posts but I’m always motivated to grow my blogs and reach more people. Getting positive feedback and constructive criticism from readers is also always helpful.
