Now Would You Please Turn This Thing Off?

If you’ve been following my updates on Twitter recently you probably already know about a new site I launched about 2 weeks ago called ‘Turn This Thing Off‘.

Turn This Thing Off is a very simple 1 page website you can direct people and link to if you’re a bit sick of getting automatic direct messages on Twitter (I know I am).

Turn This Thing Off

The reason I put this site up is cause I was getting automatic direct message at a rate of 5-6 a day. You know, you follow someone thinking the person’s cool and you wanna network and chat, and then bam! the person hits you with a very cold direct message that says something like:

Thanks for following me – please check out my blog and give it a thumbs up on StumbleUpon! I look forward to your updates.

Oh really? You look forward to my updates? Not sure about this… maybe your auto-responder is looking forward to my updates, but I have a feeling you’re not. If you were really looking forward to my updates you’d send a real direct message. You know something like:

Hey Jon, thanks for the follow! Been reading your blog, cool stuff! ttyl

Or something like that!

What Can You Do Then?

Next time you get an automatic direct message on Twitter (and if it actually annoys you), simply send the person the link to Turn This Thing Off! It’s as simple as that! :)

*seems like I’m really not the only one who doesn’t like auto-anything on Twitter, check out the Twitter search results. :)
