Cufón has been growing in popularity among designers as an alternative to sIFR. I have personally used it on a couple website designs for clients now, and I have to say, it’s a great tool to add creativity to your website without cluttering it with a huge amount of image tags. I went through the […]
Trends come and go but one that I have yet to see fade out is the color pink. It’s had its high times where almost everyone was using it, but lately we’ve seen it taper off from the forefront of the design trends in web-design. Some might still think that it’s overused, but I personally […]
Inspiration comes in many forms and this article is no different. We’ve seen the numerous showcases around the web for minimal web designs, dark designs and so many others that have been drug through the mud. My goal is to make sure the showcase posts that I create are ‘out of the box‘ and something […]
Maybe it’s because we’ve had a not-so-awesome summer here in Montreal but lately I’ve been more and more interested in website designs that make good use of weather elements like clouds, skies, suns, earth, stone, etc… So I figured, why not try to find some of the best designs and start with the ones that […]

Horizontal sliding panels are great for many situations, but like everything else, they’re not always ideal. It depends on the project. To see what I mean by ‘horizontal sliding panel‘, go have a look at my other site Design-Newz, and click on the ‘want more‘ button that’s on the right above the navigation bar.
Over the past couple month/years we’ve seen grungy-looking websites and designs popping all over the place (I much prefer that over the glossy web 2.0 look). Of course using patterns and textured backgrounds can help give a website a dirty and grungy feel, but let’s not forget about typography. While most of the fonts on […]
It’s no secret that all of us here at SpyreStudios like left aligned website designs (I mean, look at SpyreStudios). Yes, at one point in time the left aligned websites were all we had, but then people found out about CSS and the centered websites dominated. This post is our attempt to show that left […]
I always enjoy working on new things and learn about new CMS and how they work and all. I recently connected with Cory at Surreal CMS, and I decided to write a tutorial on how to create a portfolio site and run it with Surreal CMS. It’s pretty simple actually. In this tutorial I’ll show […]
In your career as a freelance designer you’ll probably use tens, if not hundreds, of different tools to perform all the tasks needed to run your business. From image editors to accounting apps to text editors. There’s no way I could list all the tools available in one post, and if I did they would […]
