I’ve always liked minimalism! Little or no use of images and a strong focus on the typography and on the content instead of graphical elements always did the trick for me. Of course I love a well-crafted website that makes good use of various graphical elements like characters/avatars, buttons, icons and others. But, when I […]
We’re all designers, right? We look at the current trends, break them when we can, and we try our best to make our work look great. In the backdraft of this are the would be designers that just don’t cut it. The ones that can’t do a gradient logo with reflection in Photoshop. That’s fine, […]
With the steady rise of Mixed Martial Arts in the mainstream and the new followers of the sport, you would think that the marketing teams for the fighters would know that their target demographic spend hours every day online and would probably be their biggest promoters. But judging by the style of the following 25 websites from 25 of MMA’s top fighters, I am assuming they didn’t get that memo.
Are you addicted to gradients, big fonts, a typical set of icons to explain that there’s 39 comments on your great post? It’s very easy to get stuck in the same old look and feel, even though your designs are very different from each other. We tackle this in different ways (although some people doesn’t […]
I’ve never been a big fan of widgets. Lots of bling bling for your sidebar might sound like a good idea at the time, but it just adds clutter, clutter, perhaps some functionality, and then some clutter. And it usually looks like crap. However, I’m starting to turn to the widget functionality in WordPress. I’ve […]
We’re all busy designers here, and that means we’d rather not spend more time hacking away than necessary. It is very easy to cut down on development time by collecting, organizing, and using default code snippets. Most of us probably do it already, but are we doing it good enough? As for me, 95% of […]
There are thousands of free WordPress themes out there, but if you want your blog to stand out from the crowd you probably want something more, something nicer than what’s available for free and depending on your needs, you may not be willing to pay for a custom theme since it can be quite expensive (though it’s still one of the best options if you want to really stand out!)
So here are 17 Premium WordPress theme stores, I’m sure you’ll find something you’ll like! And most of them offer developer’s licenses too! Very nice if you have many clients that are in need of WordPress blogs.
One of the pet peeves of being a web designer is that you sometimes end up not feeling very creative and in need of inspiration. Of course there are thousands of CSS galleries out there, but we thought we could just go ahead and make our own list of great website designs. Hoping this will […]
NOTE: This post was written in 2008 and I’ve since changed the design (and domain name) of my personal site – this tutorial is still quite relevant though, and I invite you to use it to create your own life streaming site. You can still check out my lifestream/social media hub (I put it on […]
I strongly believe that engaging in conversations and networking with other bloggers is very important. I find it’s much more important to build a sense of community than monetize your blog or try to get a nice Page Rank. The fun stuff usually happens in the comment section. But, in order to get new readers […]
