Showcase of 20 Minimalist Grid-Based Web Designs

March 30, 2011 by Hannah Milan 10 Comments

If you’re been reading SpyreStudios for a while now you probably already know we like minimalist designs. In fact we’ve showcased many websites featuring a minimalist design in the past. We thought it was time for another round.

Minimalism doesn’t rhyme with grid systems, but many grid-based websites will feature a stripped down and clean design and make great use of typography. After all, it’s all about letting the content shine. I hope you enjoy this post!

We put a lot of effort and thought into the rebuild of Lucid Design’s website about six months ago and really tried to keep it minimal and elegant with a focus on a grid-based design with a little polish and lots of intentional simplicity. Check it out: http://luciddesign.co.nz. Would love feedback in this context.

Great article, love the fact people are still researching as much as I am into other designs!

Good roundup Hannah.. I buzz off minimalist web design: the more emphasis on the content, the better. I think strong images can work really well within minimal designs and there are a few sites you’ve featured that demonstrate this perfectly. It’s a shame they don’t always go down so well with clients, as I’d like to design more!

I like these designs, I designed my own site on some of the same principles. Love the look and feel.
